VINTAGE CARTIER CLOCK CAKE based on clock, above
I needed a gold "frame," like the clock
so I used a cardboard to protect the white fondant and spray-painted the top edges with edible gold paint.
I sprayed three coats total. Below is the first coat. Any drips were removed using a paintbrush and vodka.
I resized the picture of the clock to scale with the cake, then printed out multiple pictures. I laid each piece on gum paste and cut out each piece and let dry. I hand-painted each section of each piece, then attached together using royal icing.
I was lucky to find this tiny ink imprint alphabet (Michael's Craft store), below, to match the Cartier logo that is found at the very top of the clock (hard to see in picture).
I used black edible gel and mixed with vodka, then stamped it on, but first I practiced on a piece of white fondant that had already "set." I ruined a couple before I got it right. It helped to draw a very thin line to use as a guide before stamping. You can see the line underneath the word "Cartier," if you look closely.

Details...I added the corner pieces and imprinted the sides
and cake board with various textures to add depth
Final product...and the customer LOVED it!
