Rustic Cake class at Hampton Bays Library 11/17/14

Today we had a cake class at the Hampton Bays Library to learn how to make an easy cake at home, the Rustic Cake. Here are some pictures from tonight's class. So fun! And the cakes were really beautiful. What a wonderful, fun group!!

One of my students made this cake, below.
Beautiful and so easy to decorate!!

First, level two round cakes. These are 7". Put buttercream or filling in-between,
then "crumb coat" the outside of the entire cake. Refrigerate until firm, then add another coat.
Swirl the icing into whatever pattern you like.

Add sugared fruit to top of cake. The fruit needs to be sugared ahead of time with clear gelatine and takes several hours to do but is easy, just time-consuming.
If you can get a "round" slice from a tree, this is a great rustic base!

Add either cranberries around the base or some type of nuts: walnuts or pecans look great. And there you go! A Rustic Cake that is great for the holidays and so easy to make!
